CSUSM Helps Out TOPSoccer

The West Coast Soccer Association is proud to announce the CSUSM Women Soccer Program helped out with the local TOPSoccer Programs this weekend.  If you are familiar with TOPSoccer, it is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a mental or physical disability. Their goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the US Youth Soccer family.

CSUSM women's soccer club had the opportunity to participate in TopSoccer this past weekend. Poway Youth Soccer was offering the program and was looking for volunteers within the community to help participate. CSUSM reached out to them in interest. The event is 1 hour total  and during that whole hour we are partnered up with a buddy or two to work with. The first 30 minutes we do basic skills. The Women of CSUSM had them do a couple of relay races against each other. It consisted of running to a colored cone and back as well as which team can collect the most cones in 2 minutes. The second half was a scrimmaged. It's really exciting because the CSUSM players get to play in the scrimmage with them to help cheer and motivate them to score, defend, or save a goal. Whenever their teammates scored a goal or did an awesome save it was amazing to see how much they value and appreciate each other.

TOPSoccer is an amazing program that benefits both us and the players. It's extremely rewarding to be able to share our knowledge with them and help them to feel unstoppable. This program is something that we would love to continue to participate in for the future!"
